Pudding cake is simple to make, but the results are miraculous—the batter makes its own sauce while it bakes. This cake is a rich chocolate combo that tastes even better topped with coffee or vanilla ice cream and strawberries.

Ingredients

  • 1cupall-purpose flour

  • 3/4cupgranulated sugar

  • 2Tbsp.unsweetened cocoa powder

  • 2tsp.baking powder

  • 1/2tsp.salt

  • 1/2cupmilk

  • 2Tbsp. cooking oil

  • 1tsp.vanilla

  • 3/4cupchopped walnuts

  • 3/4cup packedbrown sugar

  • 1/4cupunsweetened cocoa powder

  • 1 3/4cups hot water

Directions

  1. Grease an 8x8x2-inch baking pan; set aside. In a medium bowl combine flour, granulated sugar, the 2 tablespoons cocoa powder, the baking powder, and salt. Add milk, oil, and vanilla; stir until smooth. Stir in walnuts. Spread batter into prepared pan.

  2. In a small bowl combine brown sugar and the 14 cup cocoa powder; sprinkle evenly over batter. Pour hot water over entire surface of batter. Bake in a 350° oven for 40 to 45 minutes or until a toothpick inserted near the center comes out clean. Serve warm.
