Build a S’mores Board

Bring out the s’mores for a nostalgic small group treat at any type of get together: a game night, a slumber party, or even a holiday gathering. To give the marshmallows a golden toast indoors, use a small culinary torch or indoor electric tabletop s’mores maker.

Here’s what we like to include on our s’mores board:

  • Caramel sauce
  • Fruit preserves (we love grape and strawberry)
  • Sprinkles
  • Marshmallows
  • Chocolates (including milk, white, and dark)
  • Graham crackers (try including honey, cinnamon, or chocolate flavored crackers)
  • Wild cards (caramel-filled chocolate, peanut butter, chocolate hazelnut spread, chopped nuts, trail mix, shredded coconut, hot fudge sauce, and fresh or dried fruit)

Editor’s Tip: For a fresh component, arrange assorted fruit on the board, such as strawberries, cherries, or pineapple chunks. If you like, include a bowl of warmed hot fudge sauce or marshmallow creme and small skewers so guests can dip the fruit.

Tips for Making the Best S’mores

Gloriously nostalgic, endlessly updatable—do we ever not crave s’mores? Make them the best they can be with these simple cooking and storing tips.

  • Add a spread. Try smearing your graham crackers with peanut butter, chocolate hazelnut spread, or jam before adding the chocolate and toasted marshmallows.
  • Try an unexpected flavor combination. Our favorites include white chocolate + coconut + grape jam, dark chocolate + trail mix + freeze-dried berries, fresh bananas + peanut butter + dark chocolate, and white chocolate + sprinkles.
  • Toast your marshmallows slowly so the interior becomes melted while the exterior becomes crisp. If you toast them too fast, you’ll have a firm center and burnt exterior.
  • Warm your grahams. Slightly warming your graham crackers makes them less likely to break and helps melt the chocolate.
  • Think beyond crackers. Try layering up your s’mores fillings on grilled pound cake, angel food cake, or sliced doughnuts.
  • Store your marshmallows properly. To keep marshmallows from drying out, press air from bags and seal tightly. They will stay fresh for about one month. For longer storage, freeze marshmallows in an airtight, resealable plastic.
  • Revive dried-out marshmallows by placing them in a sealed bag with several slices of white bread for two to three days.
