If you love apples, cinnamon, and caramel sauce, this is the cake for you. This Apple Dapple Cake recipe is inspired by the many apple sheet cakes we have in the BHG archives. It is tender, moist, and oh-so-delicious! We will be going back for seconds of this easy apple cake all fall long.
Ingredients
Apple Cake
Nonstick baking spray
3cupsall-purpose flour
1Tbsp.ground cinnamon
1tsp.baking soda
1/2tsp.salt
1 1/2cupsgranulated sugar
1 1/4cupsvegetable oil
1/2cup packedbrown sugar
1/2cupapple juice
1tsp.vanilla
3eggs
3cups chopped cooking apples (such as Granny Smith and/or Honeycrisp), peeled if desired
Brown Sugar Glaze
3/4cup packedbrown sugar
1/3cupbutter
1/3cupheavy cream
1/4tsp.salt
1/2tsp.vanilla
Directions
Preheat oven to 350°F. Generously coat a 13x9-inch baking pan with nonstick baking spray; set aside.
In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, cinnamon, baking soda, and salt.
In a large bowl, beat together the granulated sugar, vegetable oil, brown sugar, apple juice, and vanilla with an electric mixer on medium until the mixture is smooth and combined. Beat in the eggs, one at a time.
Stir in the flour mixture until just combined. Fold in apples.
Spread batter into the prepared baking pan. Bake for 35 to 40 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Let cool in pan on a wire rack for 30 minutes.
For the glaze, add brown sugar, butter, cream, and salt to a small saucepan. Cook over medium heat, stirring often, about 5 minutes or until the mixture begins to simmer and sugar is dissolved.
Remove from heat; stir in vanilla. Let stand for 5 minutes. Pour warm glaze over cake.
